The Brookshire’s Green Acres Pet Resort OwnersGreen Acres Pet Resort Owners

I am an only child that grew up on a small farm in a small town in Texas. On the farm were cows, a horse, rabbits, chickens, pigs, and a lot of dogs and cats. I always have had a deep love and devotion for all animals. I wanted to be a veterinarian. I grew up in a “Mayberry”-like town, and lived on “Green Acres”. My mother was a Justice of the Peace, my dad worked for the local gas company. My grandparents ran the drugstore. I knew everybody in town (or they knew me, which was not always good). Needless to say, I was spoiled rotten.

I became an RN in 1983, graduating with my Bachelors Degree in Nursing, from Texas Christian University. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing, and a certified RN (certified in my specialty of neonatal nursing). I have always worked with infants. When not working at the kennel, I work at St. Joseph Medical Center as the Resource Charge Nurse in the Special Care Nursery.

My husband, Jim, was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He has always had a love for dogs and wolves. He served in the Navy and was stationed in Bremerton, WA. He was on the commissioning crew of the USS Sacramento AOE-1 and served proudly in Vietnam. He attended Chabot College in Hayward, California. After graduation, he attended the police academy in Livermore, California and worked in law enforcement for several years. After moving to Texas in 1979, he took courses at Tarrant County Junior College, in Fort Worth, and became a paramedic and worked on an ambulance. We met at Harris Hospital-Methodist in Fort Worth, married in 1991, and moved to California.

We moved to Gig Harbor, WA in 2002 and started looking for property on which to build a kennel or to purchase an existing kennel. In January 2006, we purchased Tannenhaus Kennels in Spanaway, WA. (Northwest Afternoons, a local television program, conducted a survey in 2005 and Tannenhaus Kennels was voted one of the top 4 kennels in the Pacific Northwest by their customers). Although Jim and I changed the name to Green Acres Pet Resort, we adhere to the same standards of professionalism and service established by the previous owners.

We would like to invite you to feel free to stop by anytime and check out Green Acres Pet Resort. We have made some recent improvements. Come and see our progress!

I started my kennel career when I was a student attending Sumner High School. I obtained a degree in Veterinary Science from Washington State University in Pullman. After receiving my degree, I worked for several veterinary clinics in the Puyallup area until becoming a mom. I have extensive experience working with all animals. I enjoy spending time with my own animals which includes two boxers, Tiki and new puppy Ernmie, and cats, Trouble and Thing. As Kennel Manager, I supervise the kennel staff and oversee the daily care of our boarding
                                  and day care guests.

Hi,  I’m Shelly and pictured with me are my three kids.  TeDo is the cattle dog, Maizzey the Boston, and Meshu the kitty.  I’ve been here at Green Acres for almost 2 years now.  Wow, time flies when you get to play all day!  I am very much an animal lover of all kinds, so if your kid visits us on long or short term basis they are ooooh so loved on with lots of kisses, playtime, ball time, and pool time in the summer.  So hope to see ya soon
                                                 – stop in and take a  tour!
